The film (which did surprisingly well at the U.S. box office) is about the spiritual awakening of hippies and other young people in late 60s / early 70s California, and tells the true story of Chuck Smith, Lonnie Frisbee, and Greg Laurie at Calvary Chapel. It's generally accepted that the Vineyard movement was birthed when Lonnie Frisbee spoke on Mother's Day in 1980 at the Calvary Chapel congregation in Yorba Linda, California pastored by John Wimber.
